Protest against Brent Council Cuts – Saturday 10th November

Protest against Brent Council Cuts at New Civic Centre, Engineers Way, Wembley, Middlesex, HA9 0E on Saturday 10th November at 10.30 am.

TUSC fully support the Counihan Family Campaign and the demonstration this Saturday. See below for the campaign’s press release. TUSC call on Brent Labour Council to:

  • Refuse to implement all the Con-Dem cuts
  • In the short term, use the Council reserves and loans to fund a budget to meet the needs of the population.
  • Support the Counihan Campaign, Trade Unions, community groups and the public to build a mass movement against austerity to halt Central Government’s plans to force austerity cuts should the councillors take a fighting stand.
  • Campaign for Central Government to fully fund a needs-based Council budget. Corporations are sitting on £850 billion and avoid £120 billion in taxes per year, so the money is out there to make austerity history! In the absence of a campaign from Labour, we must stand our own councillors in elections on an anti-cuts basis!

Counihan Campaign Press Release 2-11-12

The Counihan Family Campaign will be joining forces with the Save Our Seven Libraries campaign to protest at the Open Day at the new Brent Civic Centre in Wembley.

We condemn Brent Council wasting money on such costly vanity projects at the same time as they are imposing a massive programme of cuts in Brent which are having a devastating impact on the poor and the vulnerable.

On 1st November Muhammed Butt, Labour leader of Brent Council announced a further £100 million of cuts in Brent on top of the £41million cuts already brought in this year.http://www.brent.gov.uk/leblog.nsf/News/LBB-55
If you agree with us that Brent saying that there is no money for housing families like the Counihans, and no money to retain the seven closed libraries shows a scandalous lack of priorities please join our joint protest with the Save our Seven Libraries campaign at New Civic Centre, Engineers Way, Wembley, Middlesex, HA9 0E on Saturday 10th November at 10.30 am.
We are pleased to announce that John McDonnell MP has submitted an Early Day Motion in Parliament calling on Brent Council to provide social housing for the Counihan Family. The campaign are asking supporters to email this link to their MP and ask them to sign the motion at: http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2012-13/671
The Counihan Campaign will also be holding a demonstration in Kilburn on Saturday 1st December from Kilburn Tube at 1pm calling for Housing for the Counihans! No cuts in Brent! http://www.scribd.com/doc/111766285/Housing-for-the-Counihans-1st-Dec-Leaflet
We are on Facebook: Counihan Battlebus. You can support the Counihan Family Campaign by making a Paypal donation at: http://tinyurl.com/counihan-donate
